Our Origin Story

The Early Childhood Alliance (ECA) was born out of a shared commitment in 2016, when local school districts, early learning providers, and community organizations came together to better coordinate services for young children and families in Niles Township. Through research, site visits, and participation in statewide initiatives focused on birth-to-third grade alignment, a vision emerged for a cross-sector collaboration grounded in equity, access, and community voice.

Between 2018 and 2020, that vision took shape. Community partners identified priorities including professional development, parent engagement, and stronger connections across systems. The ECA was selected for statewide collaboration institutes, developed its formal governance structure, and launched community-wide initiatives like Lifting Up Early Childhood. With early funding support, the ECA hired its first staff and began coordinating outreach, resources, and events for families.

From 2021 to 2023, the ECA deepened its impact through data-informed planning, expanded programming, and growing partnerships. Signature efforts included the annual Fun Fair, family resource outreach, and the launch of Family Liaisons providing culturally responsive, multilingual support. During this time, the ECA also strengthened its infrastructure—hiring key staff, piloting mental health supports in early learning settings, and successfully becoming an independent 501(c)(3) organization.

Since 2024, the ECA has continued to grow as a trusted community hub. The organization established its first physical location in Skokie, expanded family supports and professional learning opportunities, and built innovative partnerships—from diaper distribution and parent education classes to bilingual programming and safety initiatives with healthcare partners. In 2026, the ECA celebrated new milestones with its inaugural fundraiser and the launch of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in Niles Township, further advancing its mission to ensure all families have access to the resources they need for their children to thrive.
