Understanding data in our collaborative work
Updated: Aug 17, 2020

The purpose of a data dive is to narrow focus, explore assumptions and build a hypothesis. Together the ECA uses data to guide our efforts to begin setting our vision, strategic direction, and designing and implementing tactical actions for our work.
What are the steps in a data dive?
First, we look at quantative data and discuss assumptions with our group, including families in the conversation.
Next, we host a participatory conversation, asking:
What stands out to us?
What is missing? What is very clear?
What do we want to know? What insights does this reveal?
Does the data look like what we expected?
What are our next steps?
Last, we engage in a qualitative data discussion called a "Root Cause Analyisis"
The way you understand the problem determines the strategy that will be developed to address the problem.
Ask why, five time? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?
Understand current conditions, what underlying contradictions block us from achieving our vision?
Focus on the system, not blaming individuals
